Introduction:

The objective of the Trail Guide Certification Program is to produce Ontario Trail Guides capable of leading safe, educational trail rides with basic instruction, whether on hourly rides, extended trail rides or horse packing/camping in the wilderness.

The Program Requirements:

  1. Current OEF membership
  2. Minimum of 16 years of age
  3. Current First Aid certification (copy submitted to the OEF office)
  4. NCCP Multi-Sport Introduction to Competition Module A Course (copy submitted to the OEF office); for additional dates and locations visit the Coaches' Association of Ontario website, at www.coachesontario.ca OR the new NCCP/EC Equestrian Specific 2-day Training Workshop; for dates go to www.horse.on.ca
  5. Mentored Task Sheet (submitted to the OEF office)
  6. Open-book assessment (administered by an approved Mentor) based on the required reading (submitted to the OEF office)
  7. Submit open-book assessment results, completed mentor task sheet, completed rider assessment form, completed application form accompanied by a cheque in the amount of $10.50 for the administration fee to the OEF office
  8. Certificate of Completion

 Required Reading:

  1. HFC/OEF Trail Guide Certification Manual
  2. EC Western Learn To Ride Program Manual (use to be called the Western Preparatory Course Manual) and/or the English Learn To Ride Program Levels 1-2, 3-5, & 6-8 Handbooks
  3. Stable Management in Canada

 To Remain Current

  1. Current OEF membership
  2. Current First Aid certificate on file at the OEF Office
  3. Certified Trail Guides must submit proof that they have guided a minimum of 10 one-hour trail rides every three years (verified by their Mentor/employer).
  4. Submit Trail Guide Update Form to the OEF Office
