Learn To Ride Programs Both the English and Western rider level programs were developed for people who want to learn safe horsemanship skills and practices on a national standard under the guidance of a certified Equine Canada coach.
Instruction of Beginner Programs The Instruction of Beginner programs are designed for people 16 years of age or older who may want to teach beginners at summer camps, trail riding establishments/clubs, or assist at lesson stables. The goal of the Instruction of Beginner Program is to develop an instructor who is capable of teaching at the beginner level, primarily on the flat, in a safe and constructive fashion. It also acts as an introduction to the EC coaching program. The Instruction of Beginner Programs currently apply to the following disciplines:
- English
- Western
- Saddle Seat
Coaching Programs Our coaching programs are designed to develop professional, accountable coaches who are skilled trainers. We offer:
Active Certified Instructors and Coaches This list of certified coaches will help you find a qualified instructor or coach in your area.
Instructor/Coach and Trail Guide Updating Requirements As an Equine Canada certified Instructor or Coach certain requirements must be met in order to maintain your status as “active”. They include the following:
- Be a current member of the Ontario Equestrian Federation, renewed annually
- Coaches – must hold, at minimum, a current Equine Canada Gold Sport License along with the additional $20.00 Coaching Levy, renewed annually
- Instructors – must hold, at minimum, a current Equine Canada Gold Sport License with the additional $20.00 Coach Levy, renewed annually
- Hold a current First Aid certificate, with a copy on file a the OEF Office
- Complete the professional development requirements for your chosen discipline as per the Updating Policies listed below:
Coaches Corner Coaches Corner is an information resourse dedicated to certified Instructors and Coaches. It is an efficient way to get information out to the coaches in the province. It is published in the OEF Newsletter, WHOA! as well as on-line.
RIDE ONtario Program The RIDE ONtario program rewards riders and drivers of horses for the hours spent in the saddle or driving a carriage. It is open to riders/drivers of all disciplines, including therapeutic, whether competing, schooling or simply having fun with their horse! Even those who rent a horse are eligible to participate. There's no age restriction … it's for the young and the young-at-heart!
