ENGLISH COACHING UPDATE POLICY – COACHES & INSTRUCTORS
(PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT)
GOAL:
To encourage a well-rounded base of knowledge. The 20 hours must come from a variety of areas. Extra hours accumulated in any three-year period cannot be carried over.
POLICY:
A coach/instructor must attend a total of 20 hours of updating in every three-year period from the date of a successful examination.
- When publishing provincially sanctioned courses for updating, the number of hours that can be used for updating must be stated.
RECORD KEEPING:
- Coaches/Instructors must keep records which must show the date of courses and hours.
- Records must be signed by the clinician.
- The Instructor, Coach 1 or 2 has the responsibility of sending the upgrading hours to the provincial office (OEF).
- Provincial coaching offices (PSO) will monitor the completion of requirements.
- A coach’s/instructor’s name will be removed from the active coaches list if the required hours are not completed.
FLEXIBILITY:
The provincial office (PSO) must communicate with the Master Course Conductor if a clinic does not appear specifically in the list below in order to decide on the number of hours for which the clinic will be eligible for upgrading.
SOME EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES WORTH HOUR FOR HOUR UPDATING
UP TO A MAXIMUM OF SIX HOURS EACH
Clarification: A 12 hour farrier’s seminar = Max. 6 hours of updating on this topic.
A 2 hour farrier’s clinic = 2 hours
- Riding lessons or clinic with a certified coach one level higher (or more) than the coach requiring updating hours. (Mounted hours only to count)
- Courses (classroom setting) which are directly related to education.
- Examples: Sensory Processing, Learn to Teach, Children’s Education etc.
- Judges’, Officials’, Course Design Clinics
- Western clinics or other disciplines
- Auditing of lessons if coaching specific (interaction between the clinician and the auditors is required)
- Farrier, Veterinary or other professional presentations/seminars
- Sports Psychology, Kinesiology, Sport Nutrition (horse/human), Athlete Management seminars
TEN HOURS (if at least 10 hours in duration):
- Apprentice coaching (practice teaching) with direct feedback (mentoring)
- Coaching/training specific clinics with direct feedback and participation of the auditors (Symposium)
- Provincially sponsored updating clinics
NOT ELIGIBLE FOR UPDATING:
- Examinations/final assessments may not be audited
- Renewal of first aid certificate.
