Coaches' Corner - October 2005
Welcome to the first installment of Coaches’ Corner, a way for us to get information out to all of the certified instructors and coaches in Ontario. If anyone has any questions or ideas for future editions, please contact Catherine Barker, Education Coordinator, at the OEF office.
First of all, a reminder to all instructors and coaches: It is your responsibility to maintain records on your coaching status and to ensure that the OEF has all necessary documentation on file. Copies of your current first aid certificate, and recording sheets for updating purposes must be submitted to the office for us to keep accurate information on our database and in your file. We send out annual “status” letters to all instructors and coaches advising of their current status, when your first aid expires and when your next updating period is. Please take the time to read this letter, as not only does it give you information on your status, it also gives you an opportunity to verify that information we have on file is accurate.
Some things to remember when conducting rider level testing:
- Please ensure that the paperwork with all required information and signatures along with the administration fee of $21.40 per test are forwarded to the OEF as soon as possible. This allows us to process payments and log the results in order to issue certificates to candidates in a timely manner.
- Coaches acting as an examiner for rider level testing MUST be active in status. If you are not active and we receive tests conducted by you, we will not issue certificates until your status returns to active.
Do you have some students or people at your barn that are interested in testing to become an Instructor or Coach in their chosen discipline, but they don’t know what to do or where to go to get started? The first thing to do is obtain an information package from the OEF office, this package outlines all prerequisites a candidate must complete prior to applying to test along with an application form and payment details. All Instructor and Coach Examinations are set up and administered through the OEF office, please contact Catherine Barker for further information.
We have a couple of candidates interested in pursuing their Western Coaching certification, however, not enough to set a date. If you want to apply for your Instructor or Coach I examination in the Western discipline, contact Catherine Barker.
New English Rider Level 1-10 Program
There have been some developments to the New English Rider Level 1-10 Program. We held our first clinic on the new program in May at York Equestrian Center. As many of you are aware, coaches wanting to test candidates in the new program must attend a clinic to learn about the new levels, and we are planning another clinic in the fall in the Ottawa area. Coaches can continue to test candidates under the old Rider Level I-III Program until March 31, 2007. Currently there are no manuals for the new program, however, we still have the old Rider I to III manuals available for purchase. Keep an eye on our website for updates and for future clinic dates. We are looking for feedback on the new program, so any coaches and candidates who have tested with the new system, please email your comments to Catherine Barker at education@horse.on.ca
