Hyde Moffatt had an unusual introduction to horses. When he was five years old, a girl at school brought in her horse for show-and-tell and Hyde was hooked! His top horse is Ting Tin, a son of the well-known sire Chin Chin, purchased in Belgium as a six-year-old. Hyde describes Ting Tin as a brave intelligent and energetic horse who loves to play with people, but gets bored easily. Starting their Grand Prix career together in 2004, Hyde and Ting Tin have steadily improved with each outing, enjoying top ten finishes at several of the biggest horse shows in Canada including the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament, the Collingwood Horse Show, Tournament of Champions, and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. When he is not showing in the Grand Prix ring, Hyde competes with several horses in the Young Horse Development Series including Baron who was crowned the 2006 Ontario Six-Year-Old Champion. In addition to his equestrian pursuits, Hyde also enjoys running. Although he is currently a middle distance runner at 10 to 15 km, he would like to work towards doing his first marathon. |

Jacqueline Brooks along with her 2003 Pan American Games team silver medal mount Gran Gesto, an Oldenburg gelding owned in partnership by Eric and Mary Brooks (Brinc Ltd.) and Anne Welch, have enjoyed considerable success starting with their Grand Prix debut in early 2004 which qualified them for the Canadian Olympic Trials. Brooks and Gran Gesto continued their successful streak by earning a place on Canada's World Equestrian Games team. Although an ill-timed hoof abscess prevented them from riding in Aachen, they enjoyed impressive results competing in the lead-up competition including second place in the Freestyle at CDI3*Pompadour, France, and ninth at CDI3* Fritzens, Austria. Brooks and her other mount Balmoral put in a great show at the prestigious Dressage at Devon CDI3* where the duo came 2nd in the Intermediaire I and won the Intermediaire Freestyle. Brooks was named the inaugural recipient of the annual John Perry Memorial Award for outstanding sportsmanship exhibited by a performance sport athlete. In April 2007, Jacqueline & Gran Gesto were awarded a ‘wild card’ from the FEI to represent Canada at the World Cup Finals. This was the first appearance for Brooks at the World Cup Finals after a number of years competing at the Canadian World Cup League Finals. Jacqueline and Gran Gesto were named to the 2008 Olympic Games Canadian Dressage Team after an impressive winter competition season in Florida with a win in the Palm Beach Derby CDI-W Grand Prix Speciale and a double second place behind team mate Ashley Holzer at the Wellington CDI3*. |

Lindsay Grice Coach, judge, speaker and horse advice columnist, Lindsay Grice says her riding career got off to a rough start. “As a young hunter rider, I went off course more times than I can count. I just didn’t have the solid foundation and understanding I needed to be competing at the level I was.” Now, in over twenty years as a professional coach and trainer, Lindsay says that her struggles as a novice rider have shaped her style today. “I love putting the complex principles of horse training and competing into simple steps that riders can understand. I equip my students with the show day game plan and course memorization skills that I never had as a junior rider.” Horse Psychology for the Competitive Rider is a topic Lindsay covers frequently as a speaker. She is currently teaching Equine Behaviour for the University of Guelph’s Horse Handler Program and is a regular guest lecturer for Equine Guelph’s online courses. She also draws regularly on sports psychology principles. “Handling show nerves, distractions, and disappointments is as much a part of a success as the technical riding skills.” She is a certified Equine Canada coach and an NCCP level 3 coach. Her students have won at major shows in the United States and Canada. Lindsay continues to actively compete in both english and western events, specializing in the American Quarter Horse Association circuit, and is frequently is in the winner’s circle. Riding clinics and speaking at Horse Expos take her throughout North America, creating thinking horsemen of her students by teaching the “hows” and “whys” of riding. She says “Ideally, horses, whatever the discipline, should “play” like a musical instrument, understanding and responding to every subtle cue from the rider.” Lindsay is an EC and AQHA specialized judge. She enjoys teaching weekend clinics for local breed associations and 4H clubs. |
